In the run-up to the 17th European Congress of Adapted Physical Activity in Seville, Spain (EUCAPA 2024), a pre-conference workshop on qualitative methodologies in APA will take place on Tuesday, June 11 (12:00 – 16:00).
The workshop is aimed at doctoral and early career researchers and will be led by an interdisciplinary and international collection of researchers: Janine Coates (Loughborough University, UK), Martin Giese (Heidelberg University of Education, Germany), Justin A. Haegele (Old Dominion University, US), Anthony J. Maher (Leeds Beckett University, UK) and Sebastian Ruin (University of Graz, Austria).
The presenters will introduce original, theoretically informed, methodologically rigorous, and empirically driven concepts related to qualitative research in adapted physical activity that can help to inform future and current research practices.
Attendees will gain an understanding of what high quality qualitative research is, and how knowledge, assumptions, and sampling inform qualitative research. They will also learn about the ableism-critical perspective and inclusion conceptualized as (inter)subjective experiences, and how they can be researched qualitatively. Further, they will gain a basic understanding of participatory approaches to researching disability.
